Update 18 September: unsold!
Unique passport photo of the exceedingly rare British writer
British passport page, signed below in fountain pen. The page bears two ink stamps indicating the date of issue, April 18, 1933. In fine condition, with the date stamp trivially affecting a couple letters of the signature. This portrait of the 51-year-old Woolf resembles the most famous photo of her, taken at age 20, with both showing the author sullenly looking to her right, eyes cast downward in a longing gaze. A highly unusual and immensely desirable format.
What a pity that this is one page of her 1933 British passport. Wonder how this happen… This item is offered at a auction house and currently at $666.
Adeline Virginia Woolf (nee Stephen; 25 January 1882 – 28 March 1941) was an English writer, and one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century.
Estimate of the auction house is $8500 – $9000. I doubt this result will be reached!
